Hands clutched the wheel as she cruised through the country side from the airport. Her one year lease on the SUV would get her through the school year before she returned back over-seas. Fingers drummed to the beat of the song that poured for the speakers. A smile parted the pink lips as her hazel green orbs took in the scene around her. The greenery and the life that surrounded the school campus.
Aspire Equine Academy, a place that she found refuge and peace. Somewhere were they didn't care that she was from over-seas. She couldn't wait to get back to the familiar campus and the people that surrounded her. Moonlight Dream her eventing mare was being taken to the Academy in a separate trailer. Her other mare Sunset Evening would be shipped over in two weeks.
The scenes were becoming exceptionally familiar as the town of Edmonton came into view. Marking the short distance to the Academy Cheyenne became exceptionally giddy with delight. This year was going to be different for her. This year it wasn't going to be all about the horses; it was going to be a year of horses and guys. She finally felt that she had everything in order with her life that she was ready to find a steady partner.
As the large sign marking the Academy showed up she began to slow and turned into the driveway. Taking the route to the parking lot she picked a empty spot and parked. Not a lot of students were back yet. But she wasn't surprised. Cutting off the engines purr she pulled the keys from the ignition and stepped out of the silver SUV to look around her a large smile pouring over her lips. Was it ever so good to be back.

oh i could hide ‘neath the wings OF THE BLUEBIRD AS SHE SINGS—the six o’clock alarm would never end Lucas knew he would have to fix his truck soon. The air conditioning had stopped working a long time ago, and now the brakes were starting to squeal a little louder than what he would have liked. Still, it worked and it suited him. He could haul a small trailer around if he had to and he could get around town without causing any accidents. It was really all he needed, so he wasn't too impatient to fix it.
His hands gripped the steering wheel as he drove down the road towards Aspire Equine Academy. His stallion, Snapshot, was boarded there, and it was nice to have the available staff to help him when he was having trouble with the crazy horse sometimes. Snapshot still had a lot of that jittery racehorse in him, and whoever had owned him before hadn't taken much consideration into his discipline. As long as he could gallop and make left turns, he was probably okay for his previous owners, but Luke expected more of him. That horse needed to learn to work as a team with his rider.
Finally pulling into the parking lot, the brakes on the truck gave one last squeal of discontent before the engine was shut off. Luke got out of his truck and locked it behind him as he started making his way towards the stables where Snapshot's stall was. Looking around, he noticed that he wasn't the only one here right now (of course). Was that Cheyenne's car? He took another look around before he finally saw her. It had been awhile, but he would know that face anywhere.
"Cheyenne!" he called. "Is that you? It's been awhile!"

The wind blew her sandy locks around her face before she pulled them up, the ends fluttering around her neck.. Cheyenne looked up as she heard the sounds of rusted out break pads. Turning her head to where the engine finished it's noise(hehe) she watched as Lucas got out, shutting and locking his old truck behind him. He looked around before spotting her car and then after looking a little bit further he saw her in the middle of the parking lot. He called over to her and she chuckled knowing that few knew that she came all the way from Great Britain at the beginning of every school year.
She smiled hitting the lock button on her car keys set before she walked over. "Hey Lucas!" She said remembering his name as well as she remembered his face "Yeah I agree. Since the end of the school year last year. I had to head back home. Not a delight. But I am so excited to be back." She spoke as she stopped a few feet from him.
"So how's the real world treating you? Well, besides the obvious" She asked making a sideways glance at his truck as she stuck her hands in her pockets. Right at the moment she wanted to race down to the barn and throw her arms around her lovely gray mare whom had been shipped a couple days earlier to get used to everything again. It was a horror like always to send her ahead first.
A to-do list for the up-coming days was flung on her passenger seat reminding her to 'Find Dorm', 'Set up Dorm stuff', 'Take tack to tack room', and other mindless yet important things like that. The smile could not be wiped from her face it was too beautiful of a day with too much excitement in her body that anything could bring her down. "How about we talk as we head to the barn. I'm dying to see Moon. It's been three whole day!" She joked missing her mare just about as much as she missed AEA when she was home. And that was a lot!

oh i could hide ‘neath the wings OF THE BLUEBIRD AS SHE SINGS—the six o’clock alarm would never end Good. So it was Cheyenne. He was glad that he wouldn't have to deal with the awkward situation of finding someone else in her place. When she started talking about her summer, though, he realized exactly why he hadn't seen her in awhile. She lived in the U.K.! Duh! How could he forget that? Of course she would be gone over the break! Either way, it was nice to see her back. He really appreciated just how much she cared for her horses. She was one of those nice kinds of people one meets at the stables: not too snobby, but not overly adoring of her horses. She wasn't a showoff, she just really liked horses and treated them like friends. It was always nice to see that in someone else.
Cheyenne's sideways glance did not go unnoticed. Even though he could say his truck was a piece of junk, he still loved the darned old thing and didn't take too well when other people started criticizing it. But of course, this was Cheyenne. He didn't mind of she said it jokingly, so he just shrugged it off. "It's the old scrap heap. What do you expect? I'll probably have to get her fixed soon. I don't want to cause an accident, and it'd be nice not to have to hear a squeak ever time I stopped," he replied. He shoved his hands in his pockets, suddenly struck by the thought that Snapshot was probably prancing in his stall again. The horse was a fireball of energy, not to mention an attention hog.
At Cheyenne's words of talking as they walked towards the stables, Luke was already set to follow. He was just as eager as her to get to the horses and start saddling up. Today was a beautiful day. Why waste it standing around when they could make better use of their time? He began to walk quickly towards the stables, never forgetting that Snapshot was on the other end of this walk.
"So how was it back home?I noticed that Moon wasn't around for awhile, so you must have taken her with you. How did she handle all the traveling?" he asked. If he knew anything from his dealings with both Snapshot and Maze it was that horses did not always take to travel very well. Of course, he could have just been stuck with two horses that both preferred walking (or in Snapshot's case, galloping) wherever they went.

She watched his shoulders shrug at her joke about his truck. She didn't mean to hit a nerve she had only been kidding. Scrap heap; it was a word that described his truck well. "We could go salvage a junk yard and find a way to pimp your truck." She said a large smile running across her face. "That or I could help out. I hate all the money that weighs down my pockets that my grand mother gives me." She said the smile fading from her lips. That's what happened when you had monarchical family. She seemed to get the best of everything. Her family didn't care for her love of horses but she didn't care what they thought anymore. They lived over-seas while she spent her days here. A place that she felt welcome, loved, and enjoyed.
When Lucas began to start walking towards the barn she turned back to her vehicle. All her tack and supplies was in the trunk. She un-locked it and opened the back calling over to Lucas. "If we're heading down to the barn I need my tack and other supplies." She pulled out her carry-all bag that held all her tack and boots and tossed it to the ground. It held her saddle and all along with her boots, helmet and other riding gear.
Also grabbing her backpack she slung it over her shoulder and shut the back-end of her vehicle. Sighing she picked up the large bag and lugged it over to Lucas. Setting it down next to her. "Moon fared all right. I made sure she didn't get over exerted when we came back. Another reason I flew her out three days ahead of me. It was home. I typically stayed at the stables, avoided my grand mother, and tried to play the sweet daughter my parents always wanted and not the tom boy they got. " she shrugged a typical avoid everyone my going to the barn where no one bothered you routine.
"But enough about me. How have you been? How's Snapshot coming along? Last I heard he was really green and hard to handle still" she said as she went to scoop up her large bag and head to the stables for time with her horse and a possible trail ride to start off the beautiful day!

oh i could hide ‘neath the wings OF THE BLUEBIRD AS SHE SINGS—the six o’clock alarm would never end "I think I can take care of that truck some way or another, but I really appreciate the offer," Lucas said. It was true; he always appreciated offers of help, especially since he was out on his own and completely independent, but that's what made it so special to him. He valued his independence so much that it always made him feel bad when he had to depend on someone else. Still, it was always the thought that counted, and it reminded him that if he ever really did need the help, he could depend on Cheyenne to be there. That was always a comforting thought.
Luke looked over his shoulder to see that Cheyenne wasn't following. Instead, she uttered some words about bringing along her stuff and headed back to her car. He quickly turned around once he saw all the stuff that she was pulling out. There was no way he was going to let her carry all that by herself. It would only make him feel like some jerk if he didn't help. Just as she started to bend down to grab her bags, he beat her to it and picked up the bag himself (I'm sorry if you don't agree with the god-moding there and I'll fix it if need be). What did she have in this bag?! It was a lot heavier than the stuff he brought along with him whenever he moved Snapshot around. At the mention of his horse, though, his face broke out into a smile. He was starting to become quite proud of his crazy horse.
"Snapshot's actually been coming along great. His snapping and biting has stopped and he's not refusing the jumps anymore, but he still has his need for speed. I'm thinking he'd be better suited for cross country if this keeps up. Who knows? He might actually do really well in it," Luke explained. It was actually something he had been considering ever since he first started putting Snapshot through the jumps. No matter how hard he tried, that horse still wanted to go as fast as he possibly could through every course. "When's Sunset supposed to be coming back? I haven't seen her around the stables at all?"

Cheyenne was surprised by his movement and stood back up as he grabbed her bag "Thank You." her British accent seeping through her words. She frowned but quickly came back up with a smile, she didn't care. So many people knew of her accent it wasn't a surprise to anyone anymore. Walked towards the barn she felt bad that he was carrying her heavy bag. Seeing his face try to discern what was in the bag she chuckled. "Oh just about all my tack: my saddles, well my english one, all my western stuff will be sent up with Sun, my english riding habit. Which if we take a trail ride is the first thing to get hung up in the closet at my apartment." she sighed it was good to be out of the dorms. She felt more like she was free and grown up to be by herself, to be trusted, then where she had been staying in the dorms on campus.
As he answered her question about Snapshot she smiled. "It's good to know we've got a good cross country horse on our hands. Moon doesn't do to well with the endurance part. I blame her Thoroughbred blood lines, they’ve got good power and speed with her but no endurance. But oh how she loves to run on the trail when I let her. But she's so poised and refined in the show ring. I love her to bits." she spoke as the barn came into view. A wide smile spread across her face, they were getting closer to seeing her beloved, the horse she had worked with since it had been a yearling.
"Sunset will be coming over in two weeks or more. It's a struggle to be parted but at least I've got Moon. And with the competition I'm glad I chose her." She sighed. The barn loomed not to far in the distance and she got a bit of a sprint in her steps. Remembering that Luke was carrying her heavier bag she slowed and walked with him. "How about a trail ride? I'm dying to get a ride in. It's been a week since my last time on horse back; stupid packing." she spoke as a silence passed over them. Coming to the front of the barn she opened the regular doors leading to the lounge. They walked in and she closed the door behind Luke. Tossing her smaller back into the lounge she walked over to her bigger bag, which he had set beside the couch where she had deposited her smaller bag, and grabbed her brushes. Grabbing the smaller brush bag she tossed it over her shoulder and turned around to face Luke. A big grin spread over her face "Let's go!" she chirped as she headed for the door that led to the stable setting.
