The day was going by slow. She had her morning coffee and her bagel and it still wasn't even 10 AM yet. She sighed softly as she grabbed her keys and headed out the door. She was damned if she was to get out today. She needed to get out. She needed to work Sasha and that's exactly what she was gonna do. The brunette beauty got in her dark red mustang and sped off towards the stables. She hadn't ridden her bay mare in quite a while, so she was eager to get back in the saddle.
It was unlike Jessicah to not ride, but lately she had been busy looking for more horses to buy, trying to save up for her own stable, and being the new manager at the pet store. Life was good for now. She was happy that she was now starting to get the ball rolling.
When she arrived at the stables, she quickly got out of her car and made her way towards Sasha's stall. The pretty bay mare was in the run about when she reached the stall and nickered when she saw Jess. Sasha was one of her reining Quarter Horses and was damn good at it too. Now that she was starting her own life finally, she wanted to start showing again and it was going to start with Sasha; like it had in the first place. Hey girl! Her lips moved into a smile as her hand ran over the mare's face. She kissed the mare on her forehead. It feels good to see you again. Then she grabbed the halter and leadrope that hung outside the stall door and put the halter on her. Jess unlatched the stall door and led the mare out into the middle of the barn aisle, attaching her to the cross ties.
Within about 10 minutes she had Sasha groomed, saddled, and ready to go. She undid the halter and gathered up the reins and led the mare out of the barn. Once they were safely out of the barn, she mounted the bay mare. An instant huge grin came upon her face. She was home. Jess squeezed her calves lightly against the mare's sides and she walked on towards the outdoor arena. Jessicah hadn't heard anything about an upcoming Reining show, but that still didn't mean that they didn't need to practice. Once they were inside the arena, she moved Sasha to the rail and let her walk on a loose lead.
After a few minutes Jessicah shortened her reins a bit and squeezed Sasha, moving the mare into a smooth trot. She used nothing but her seat to have the mare work a figure 8. Then she moved the mare into a lope and had her lope another figure 8. Once that was done with no problems, she trotted Sasha to the top of the arena and looked ahead to make sure no one was going to be in her way. She then turned Sasha to the left and gave the mare her head as they moved into a full gallop down the arena. Right before they got to the other end, Jess sat down deep in her seat and said, Whoa. Sasha instantly did a sliding halt. Dirt went flying; the mare was a pro. She let the mare stand quietly as she patted her neck. Good girl! Then she raised her reins, letting Sasha know that they were going to spin. Then she shifted her weight to the inside and bumped her outside leg in a slow rhythm and Sasha instantly started to spin, gradually getting faster and faster. Then she dropped the reins and said, Whoa, once again. She smiled happily. It seemed like her mare would never forget anything.
Jess patted the mare's neck once more as she put her back on the rail and let her cool off a bit before they would do another round, maybe even a past pattern they had done in a show. She glanced around at the other people in the arena. Most of the people in the arena were with a riding buddy. Jess didn't really mind riding alone, she preferred it sometimes. But other times, it was always nice to have a friend. She hadn't even met any friends since she had moved here. Well, she had her employees but that was obviously different. She sighed softly and played with Sasha's black mane. I'm sure I'll make a few friends soon. I should be fine until I do.
