Why do I keep looking at you? Evelynn smiled breathing in the air, she had just arrived at Aspire Equine Academy! It was her first time here, and she was here to ride after all. Her brand new horse, Black Victory had already been shipped here two days ago. Evelynn so badly wanted to just run to the horse, sure she had just gotten it but she fell in love with it straight away. A soft whine came from about three feet away. Grace, Evelynn's Pitbull cross Bulldog mix trotted over. It had been a long ride, and the poor dog was sick of it. Evelynn smiled and bend down to scratch Grace behind her ears. Evelynn let Grace of the leash, the dog followed her everywhere anyway. Grace did that puppy grin of hers, the one that made Evelynn take the five year old dog in. Grace sniffed her hand and without a second thought licked, slobering her saliva all over Evelynn.
Evelynn laughed, that was typical for Grace. "You ready to go girly?" she asked the dog, Grace licked her again then walked forward, waiting for her owner to follow. Evelynn grinned, she loved Grace, the dog had been one of her dearest friends. She strutted quickly down the paved road, Evelynn was awed by the the beauty of the campus. Everything was so alive, spring was coming in and that meant so were new little faces. Evelynn shivered, it still was a bit on the cold side though. She could do with a jacket, though she hadn't brought it yet. In less than five minutes, girl and dog reached the humongo stable. Evelynn's jaw slacked open, it was gorgeous, just like everything else there. She pushed open the heavy door and entered the dimly lit stable. Rows and Rows of stalls greeted her. Grace growled and stepped protectively closer to Evelynn. A few horse's heads popped out of their stalls as Evelynn walked past them. "Victory?" she called softly, immediatly an ebony geldings head popped up. Evelynn smiled, Grace relaxed, she recognized the horse, Hey boy? Were you a good boy while I was gone? Huh?" Evelynn asked the horse. He bobbed his head up and down pushing agianst the stall door. Evelynn grinned, she reached into her bag and dug out an apple, after washing it; she took a delicious bite. Victory snorted and reached for the apple, he knew he would get it, "You want it? Oh alright." Evelynn laughed as she surrendered, letting the horse chomp the whole apple in one bite.
"I spoil you." she laughed as Victory searched her for another treat. Evelynn pushed the geldings head away and bent down to look at Grace. The dog, had laid down and was falling asleep. Evelynn smiled, Grace was adorable, she snapped on Grace;'s leash and secured it to a stable post. Grace's eyes lit up and she whined, wanting to go wherever Evelynn was going. Evelynn smiled and patted her head before rolling Victory's doors open. The horse snorted and backed up as Evelyn secured a halter on and led him out. Victory's hooves made clip clop noices as she led him to cross ties. In the time of the next hour, Evelyn spent grooming and tacking Victory. Finally he was looking beautiful. "You ready to go on a ride?]Victory snorted and nudged her. Eveynn put his bridle on and intied Grace's leash, leading both of the animals toward the arena. She clipped Grace's halter, to the arena post , the dog whined a little, then curled up again.
Evelynn put the reins over Victory's head and stuck her foot into the stirrup. As she was about to mount, Victory moved forward, and Evelynn cursed pulling on the reins to make him stop. "We don't go until I tell you." Evelynn said in a bossy voice, Victory snorted. The girl swung her leg over and she was, only after she got all orginized and comfortable, she let him move forward into the arena. Evelynn warmed up by doing two pointing own the long sides to stretch her muscels. Pretty soon, they had moved into a trot and Evelyn was posting to the correct diagnol. Finally it was time to work on her dressage. She started out with basic led yielding, Victory responded well and crossed over, that led into half passes which Victory did well. They moved into a trot and Evelynn started to get him to extend his legs. She gave the signal, and Victory fell to a walk. Evelynn sighed, this was what she was working on.Words: Around 810. When it is a good temperature on a day with the sun peeking out, teasing you with spontaneous rays of warmth, there aren't many things you could do besides go trail riding. That's what Olliver had done, alone as per usual. He didn't care that Mimi was young, hot, and greener than spring grass - he preferred to take risks than live on the cautious side. That and the fact that he trusted the mare, stupid though she was in her bouts of idiocy. Today had been a good day for her anyway, and he had been able to simply tack up and go. Olliver hadn't need to lunge her. She plugged away beneath him, snorting softly with every bob of her head. His fingers traced patterns on her delicate neck, the reins loosely clasped in his other hand. The sun shone through the trees, casting shadows on the pair and the trail before them. They were nearly at the trails end and back at the stables that had become Olliver's home.
Things at his house in the USA had been rough. His parents had done everything in their power to make it easier for him, but with ADHD, OCD, and behavioural issues, he hadn't fit in. Nobody had liked him because of his spontaneity, excessive volume and blunt way of handling situations. Before elementary school had finished, he had lost all hope of ever having a true friend. His parents tried sports and art classes and various activities, but Olliver hadn't fit anywhere. He grew dark and withdrew into a shell of self-pity. The walls of self-defense were high around him. Then, in a random last effort at helping their son, they took him horse back riding. He had an unbelievably good time, but he didn't say much at the time. A week or so after, he had timidly asked his mother, "Mom.... Can I go back again?" She had nearly cried of happiness, and after a few months of riding, they had an entirely new son. He was exuberant and had a real passion for life suddenly. They had bought him a horse, and when the old mare had been euthanized last year, Olliver felt like a stronger, better person. He had bought Mimi with his own hard-earned money and auditioned to come to Aspire - when he was accepted, he had cried. Literally cried tears.
However, since arriving at the campus, he had found himself violently thrust backwards into his childhood. Everyone was judgmental. His attitude toward people had changed over the years and since these were new people, he approached them cautiously, sometimes with his hackles up so high that they took his words as rude and condescending. He had made more enemies here so far than friends. However with Mimi with him, he didn't find it hard to cope. When he had a particularly bad day, he knew he could bury himself in her warm mane and clutch her head close to him. She was a fantastic cuddler.
The barn came into view and Olliver squeezed the mare gently with his calves, urging her with his seat into a working trot. She opened up her stride wonderfully, flexing her neck slightly, her poll soft and supple. Olliver smiled unintentionally at the wonderful mare beneath him. Taking the reins in one hand, he patted her generously on the neck with the other. Just as they were passing the outdoor, he caught sight of a rider working her horse through the opened sliding door of the indoor arena. Sitting hard in the saddle, Mimi halted abruptly without a verbal cue. Olliver relaxed his contact on her mouth, allowing her to stretch her neck out and gaze around. He himself was gazing at the girl. He didn't intend on doing ringwork today, but why not? He felt magnetically drawn into the ring, like he should be riding in it. With her. Dismounting, he lead Mimi over to the gate that the large sliding door had left exposed, and let himself into the ring. He closed the gate firmly behind Mimi after she shifted her hind end inside. Olliver checked his girth and tightened it a notch, Mimi grunting at the gentle tugs. Her ears were pricked and her eyes were bright as she watched the black horse that was in the ring with her.
Olliver swung his leg smoothly over the saddle and settled himself in, collecting his reins up and urging Mimi forward into a working trot. She sprang forward eagerly, her ears flicking to and fro in intense concentration. She was having a good day today. He shifted his right leg back behind the girth and applied light pressure. The mare yielded across the ring to the left, and then Olliver relaxed his right leg and applied his left leg similarly, resulting in the same response, but in the other direction. Cuing a canter, they passed the girl on the black horse. Olliver nodded solemnly, not wanting to pester the girl when she was clearly wrapped up in her horse. He hadn't seen her before... And he really hoped to get a chance to speak with her before they were both finished riding.

Why do I keep looking at you? Evelynn sighed and looked up, why the heck did she even try, just that one stupid move. Dressage was one of her weaker points in eventing, cross country was her top but to fufill her dreams, she had to master it. Victory didn't like it either, the gelding shook his head, he wanted to do something fun. Evelynn rebalanced herself on the horse and decided she would start from the half pass again, at least they got that down. Evelynn flexed and pushed until Victory was doing half pass across the arena. Evelynn loved riding, it her passion as it was so many others. She remembered all those days of trainning she got from her mom, the eventing queen. She missed her sudenly, the girls face saddend like a storm cloud. Evelynn shook her head vigorously until she got the memories out of her head, Victory snorted as his rider became tense in the saddle. Maybe she just needed to do a canter around the arena to loosen her up, she clucked at the gelding and pushed him into a trot, catching her diagonal as usual. As they hit the curved part of the arena, Evelynn sat deep in the saddle and pushed hher outside leg back. Victory snorted excitedly and they were flying. The gelding let out a small buck as they whizzed around the arena, Evelynn giggled and finally brought him to a walk.
The girl nearly fell off though when she turned around to see a boy a few years older than her. Her eyes opened wide and she gasped, she hadn't noticed he was there. And he was doing a beautiful display of half passes and trots. She watched awed by his performance as he led the beautiful mare into a canter. Victory seemed to think she was beautiful too, he let out a soft nicker. Evelynn chuckled, "Why did they geld you so late? Huh boy?" she asked teasingly, barely higher than whisper. She pushed Victory into a walk again, then moved into a trot, alright boy, you can do it, she gave the signal for the extended trot. She was waiting for the usaual fall to walk, but suddenly she felt his legs extending underneath her. Her face broke into a wide grin and she patted Victory's silky neck.
Evelynn now took a closer look at the boy, he was coming closer, and she could see his face. He immediatly became on her cutie list. She flashed him a beautiful grin as he thundered past her. Evelynn was sometimes a flirt, but only sometimes. She wondered what the boy was here to do, he certainly looked like a good rider. She walked Victory around, maybe she would go on a trail ride after this. Outside was beautiful and you couldn't miss a good oppurtunity, but something made her want to wait for the boy to say something before she left. Was it his cuteness? Maybe, she blushed, what in the world was she doing? As the mare came closer, Victory started to do his "stallion" walk. Evelynn started to chuckle, Sorry bud." she said laughing and patted his neck.Words: About 550 Muse: Horrible Notes: Sorry it's so short. Outfit: Look at first post. Tags: Olliver

Mimi was snorting happily beneath him and Olliver focused on holding her face and driving her forward into the bit. She was soft and relaxed, her neck flexed, her back rounded and she was driving with her hocks. All Olliver felt was pure joy. Glancing at the girl in the ring, he made sure they had room and cut down the center of the ring. One, two, three, lead change, one, two, three, lead change and so on. They were on the left lead as the reached the end of the ring and Olliver looked left, the slight shift in body weight all the filly needed to cue her left. When they were back on the long side against the rail, Olliver whispered, "Trrrot." The filly dropped down almost immediately to Olliver's surprise, and he sat deep in the saddle, pushing with his pelvis and calves. Her stride was long and slow, and he released pressure on the reins so she could lower her head and relax. She couldn't extend her trot yet on cue, not really. It was one of the things Olliver was working on with Mimi - extension of gates. She just wanted to go faster without lengthening her strides.
The Rheinland Pfalz-Saar filly must have been feeling really good from the exhilarating ride - she was behaving so wonderfully. To show her excitement, she decided to be bad for the first time that day, even though her neck and shoulders were damp with a misting of sweat. She halted, and Olliver clucked and squeezed. She squealed and grabbed the bit in her teeth, breaking into a gallop. Rolling his eyes, Olliver snatched the reins up tight and met the tension in her mouth as she refused to soften. Her gallop was uncontrolled and fast. They were a grey blur. "Watch out lady," he yelled, not in a rude way, just a warning that he had to get the filly under control and that the girl in the ring with him should probably watch out. Mimi let out another squeal and bucked. Olliver applied a series of half-halts that Mimi naturally ignored completely. It was a lost cause, and so Olliver grasped the right rein in his hand and pulled, hard. The filly's head flew right toward the rail, and she was forced to turn. She didn't like the sudden intense pressure on her mouth and she reared up, her head still pulled right. The boy leaned forward, moving the reins into one hand and using the other to bop her lightly on the poll. She fell back down to ground level, her ears pinned. Her mood had deteriorated.
Olliver rolled his eyes again. It was his fault for giving her a loose rein - she worked better when she was actually... Working. She wasn't the kind of horse who liked or needed a "relaxation" period on a loose rein. She tended to like to take off. He took her reins up again and she softened this time, rounding underneath of him like a good horse. He patted her briefly before pushing her into a trot again. They trotted once around, her snorting now not happy but slightly frustrated. One good trot around the ring and he'd cool her out and call it a day. She was huffing from her bronc episode.
He hadn't seen the girl or what she'd done when his filly had done her nutso act, and he scanned the ring for her. He hoped she hadn't had trouble controlling her stallion when Mimi had had a fit. His eyes located her doing an extended trot - they must have worked around Mimi's episode. The filly had kept it in one end of the ring mostly, so it wasn't a big deal. Dropping down to a walk, Olliver called out to the girl, "Hey sorry about that. Didn't mean to sound bossy or anything. She just has hissy fits sometimes... Girls." He winked suggestively, his smile genuine.
